Welcome to Ralph & Julie's online photo albums.

Our last couple of days were spent Talkeetna. This is the town that is the traditional staging point for most attempts to climb Denali. We decided to take a flight-seeing tour of the mountain. We flew in a (very!) small plane to about 12K feet and circled the main peaks as well as most of the surrounding peaks. We also landed direcly on the Ruth Glacier which is almost 40 miles long and generally over a mile wide. The glacier flows through the Great Gorge of Ruth Glacier with is the world's deepest. The ice is 3700 feet deep, some of it more than a thousand years old. The surrounding walls soar 4000-5000 feet above. If the ice were to melt the gorge would be a spectacle twice as awesome as the Grand Canyon at a mile wide and nearly two miles high.
