Monday, May 14, 2012 In the morning we had our first snorkling experience in Gardner Bay. It was awesome, swimming with sea lions and thousands of interesting fish such as reef cornet fish, king angel and razor surgeon fish, striped salemas, and giant hawkfish, among many others. After the snorkel, we visited the beautiful white sand beach of Gardner Bay, where we walked among hundreds of Galapagos sea lions and many Española mockingbirds. In the afternoon, we moved to Punta Suarez, west of Española. We took the longer hike along the rough, rocky trail, where we saw sunbathing endemic Española lava lizards, Darwin finches feeding their chicks, Galápagos hawks, courting blue-footed boobies, juvenile and adult Nazca boobies, marine iguanas, swallow-tailed gulls, and the interesting waved albatross courtship behavior.
